What’s Christianity All About?

The heart of the Christian faith is not a rule-book to follow or an organization to join, but a person - Jesus Christ
.

We believe in the good news that Jesus Christ, a real man who lived two thousand years ago, is the
Son of God and Saviour of the world. A Christian is someone who acknowledges that this same Jesus is the King and Lord over everything and who is trusting in Jesus to save them from sin. A Christian becomes a disciple of Jesus, committed to serve and obey Jesus and His teaching in every part of their life.

Who is Jesus?

Jesus is the unique Son of God. We believe there is only one true God, the God who has revealed Himself in the Bible, but that this awesome and amazing God, who created the universe, is one being in three persons - the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

As God, the Son has always existed from eternity and has always been, is today, and always will be forever, completely and fully God. Yet because we needed a Saviour, God the Son became the man Jesus and came to live on earth, fully human like us. He remains both God and man forever.

What about us?

All of us have sinned against God:

* we have failed to acknowledge Him as our Creator and Lord;
* we have broken His commandments of love;
* we have not worshipped Him and loved Him as we should.

Because of our deep sinfulness, we now suffer a broken relationship with God and we are all facing His judgment and condemnation.

Then how can Jesus help us?

Jesus Christ came to earth
in order to bring us back to God, by being the only mediator who could reconcile people and God.

He did this by living a perfect life, during which He healed the sick, raised the dead, performed many miracles, and preached the good news of the kingdom of God. By doing so He revealed Himself to be the Son and the Saviour of His people. He willingly allowed Himself to be killed, crucified upon a cross, in order to save us from the punishment of sin. Christ died on the cross, suffering for sin in our place, so that God's good justice could be satisfied and that we might receive pardon and be reconciled to Him. The cross shows God’s love and mercy towards us.

Then, just as He had predicted, Jesus rose from the dead three days later - an event which is testified to by many historical eyewitness sources. He was then received back into heaven, to live and rule forever as the Saviour of the world.

So what is the Good News?

Jesus still invites us all today to come to Him, in order to be forgiven of our sins and to begin a new relationship with God through faith in Him.

If we turn from our past sinful ways of life and put our faith in Him, He promises to make us into new people and to give us a new start by the power of the Holy Spirit. He heals our broken lives and restores our souls.

The heart of the Christian faith is the call to be reconciled to God through Jesus Christ:

* to trust Him as Lord and Saviour,
* to follow Him in our day-to-day living,
* to read about Him in the Bible,
* and to be loved as a child of God because of what He has done.

God extends this call to all people everywhere -
to be reconciled to Him through Jesus Christ. You too are invited to have this relationship with Him.
